Cala is a career advisory platform designed to help professionals better understand their motivation, work preferences, career context, and potential fit with different work environments.

Cala is built by employees, for employees. We are designed to serve individuals, not employers.

This Privacy Notice explains how Cala collects, uses, shares, protects, and retains personal information.

For purposes of this Privacy Notice, “Cala,” “we,” “us,” or “our” means [Legal entity name], with address at [Legal address]. You can contact us at hello@cala.inc.

This Privacy Notice applies to our website, product, surveys, assessments, waitlist, account features, peer invitation features, analytics, and related services.

1. Who Cala is for

Cala is intended for adults and working professionals. Cala is not intended for children or minors. You should not use Cala if you are under 18 years old.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child or minor without appropriate consent, we will delete it.

2. Personal information we collect

We collect personal information directly from you, automatically when you use Cala, and sometimes from people you invite to provide feedback.

A. Account and contact information

We may collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Login credentials or authentication information
  • Country, region, or language preference
  • Communication preferences
  • Waitlist, onboarding, or support messages

B. Career and professional information

Depending on the features you use, we may collect:

  • Current or past role
  • Seniority level
  • Industry
  • Company type or work environment
  • Work history
  • Skills, interests, and career goals
  • Resume, CV, LinkedIn export, or similar professional information if you choose to provide it
  • Job search preferences
  • Reflections about your current or past work experience

C. Survey, assessment, and profile information

Cala may ask you to complete surveys or assessments about your motivation, personality, work preferences, adaptability, collaboration style, energy, frustration, or career context.

This may include:

  • Motivation survey responses
  • Career adaptability responses
  • Personality or work-style responses
  • Self-reflections about your work life
  • Optional context about your life situation, such as whether work-life balance, caregiving, family structure, relocation, remote work, commute, or financial stability matter to your career decisions

Some of this information may feel personal or sensitive. You decide what to provide. We use this information to generate career insights and recommendations for you.

D. Peer feedback and invitation information

If you invite a peer, colleague, friend, or other person to provide feedback, we may collect:

  • The invitee’s name or email address
  • Their relationship to you, if provided
  • Their feedback about your work style, strengths, collaboration style, or professional context
  • Invitation status and related metadata

You should only invite people who you reasonably expect would be comfortable receiving an invitation from Cala.

Before someone submits peer feedback, Cala should explain whether that feedback will be shown to you, whether it will be attributed to them, and how it will be used.

E. Usage, device, and technical information

When you use Cala, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address
  • Device type
  • Browser type
  • Operating system
  • Pages viewed
  • Features used
  • Session activity
  • Approximate location derived from IP address
  • Referring URLs
  • Error logs
  • Security logs
  • Cookie and similar technology identifiers

We use this information to operate, secure, debug, analyze, and improve Cala.

F. Information we do not intentionally request

Cala does not intentionally ask for government identification numbers, biometric identifiers, precise geolocation, medical records, financial account credentials, race or ethnicity, religious beliefs, political opinions, union membership, sexual orientation, or criminal history.

Please do not provide this type of information unless a specific Cala feature clearly asks for it and explains why it is needed.

3. How we use personal information

We use personal information for the following purposes.

A. Primary purposes

These are purposes necessary to provide Cala:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Provide career insights, motivation analysis, work-style analysis, and recommendations
  • Help you understand your professional preferences and potential fit with different work environments
  • Process surveys, assessments, peer feedback, and professional information you choose to provide
  • Personalize your Cala experience
  • Save your progress and let you continue where you left off
  • Provide support and respond to your requests
  • Maintain the security, integrity, and availability of Cala
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, or technical issues
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations
  • Enforce our terms and policies

B. Secondary purposes

These are purposes that help us improve and grow Cala, but are not strictly necessary to provide the core service:

  • Improve our surveys, scoring models, product experience, and recommendations
  • Develop new features
  • Measure product performance and usage trends
  • Create aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified insights about career motivation, work preferences, and organizational fit
  • Send product updates, educational content, research invitations, or marketing communications
  • Understand which audiences may benefit from Cala

You may opt out of marketing communications at any time. Where required by law, we will obtain your consent before using your information for secondary purposes.

4. AI-generated insights and automated processing

Cala may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical models, scoring logic, or similar technologies to generate insights about your motivation, work preferences, career context, and potential fit with different environments.

These insights are intended to support reflection and decision-making. They are not legal, medical, psychological, financial, or employment advice. Cala does not guarantee that any recommendation, score, or fit assessment will predict job satisfaction, performance, hiring outcomes, or future career success.

We do not intend for Cala to make legally or similarly significant decisions about you without human involvement. We do not authorize employers to use Cala to make hiring, firing, compensation, promotion, disciplinary, or other employment decisions about you.

5. Our employee-first commitment

Cala is built by employees, for employees.

We will not share your individual survey responses, motivation profile, personality profile, peer feedback, career reflections, or Cala-generated individual insights with your employer, prospective employers, recruiters, or other companies.

Your individual Cala profile belongs to you.

You may choose to copy, download, export, or personally share your own Cala results. But Cala will not provide your individual profile, survey responses, or personal insights to employers, prospective employers, recruiters, or other companies as a product feature, data product, or commercial service.

We may use aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information to identify broader patterns about work motivation, career fit, or workplace environments, but we will not use that information in a way that is intended to identify you individually.

This commitment does not prevent Cala from using trusted service providers that process information on our behalf to operate, secure, host, analyze, or improve the service. These providers are not allowed to use your personal information for their own independent purposes.

6. How we share personal information

We may share personal information with the following categories of recipients.

A. Service providers

We use service providers to host, store, process, secure, analyze, and support Cala. These providers may include cloud infrastructure, database, hosting, authentication, email, analytics, customer support, security, and AI infrastructure providers.

These providers are authorized to process personal information only as needed to provide services to Cala and subject to appropriate contractual obligations.

B. AI and model providers

If Cala uses external AI providers, we may send limited information to those providers to generate summaries, recommendations, classifications, or other product outputs.

We aim to limit the information sent to AI providers to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant feature. We do not authorize AI providers to use your individual Cala profile to market to you, sell your information, or disclose your information to employers or recruiters.

C. People you invite

If you invite someone to provide feedback, we may share limited information with that person, such as your name, the fact that you invited them, and instructions for providing feedback.

D. Legal, safety, and compliance recipients

We may disclose personal information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with law, regulation, legal process, or government request
  • Protect the rights, safety, and property of Cala, our users, or others
  • Detect, prevent, or investigate fraud, abuse, or security issues
  • Enforce our terms and policies

E. Business transactions

If Cala is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, personal information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and privacy safeguards.

If such a transaction occurs, Cala will seek to preserve the employee-first commitments described in this Privacy Notice.

7. International transfers

Cala is targeted to users in Mexico and the United States. Your personal information may be processed in Mexico, the United States, or other countries where Cala or its service providers operate.

When we transfer personal information internationally, we take reasonable steps designed to protect it in accordance with this Privacy Notice and applicable law.

For users in Mexico, your personal information may be processed outside Mexico by Cala and its service providers for the purposes described in this Privacy Notice.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

Cala may use cookies, local storage, pixels, SDKs, and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in
  • Remember preferences
  • Secure the service
  • Measure product performance
  • Understand usage patterns
  • Improve the product
  • Support referral attribution, where applicable

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Some features may not work properly if you disable cookies.

Cala does not currently sell personal information or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If this changes, we will update this Privacy Notice and provide any opt-out mechanisms required by applicable law.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

These safeguards may include encryption in transit, encryption at rest where supported by our infrastructure providers, access controls, authentication controls, logging, least-privilege practices, monitoring, and secure development practices.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Cala, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, improve our product, and maintain security.

As a general rule:

  • Account information is retained while your account is active.
  • Survey and assessment information is retained while your account is active, unless you delete it or request deletion.
  • Peer feedback is retained while your account is active, unless deleted or subject to a valid rights request.
  • Technical logs are retained for a limited period needed for security, debugging, analytics, and compliance.
  • Aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information may be retained longer because it no longer identifies you.

You may request deletion of your account or personal information using the contact information below.

11. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information.

A. Mexico privacy rights

If you are in Mexico, you may exercise ARCO rights:

  • Access: know what personal information we hold about you
  • Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Cancellation: request deletion where legally appropriate
  • Opposition: object to certain uses of your personal information

You may also have the right to revoke consent or limit certain uses or disclosures of your personal information.

To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@cala.inc with the subject line “Privacy Request” and include:

  • Your name
  • Email associated with your Cala account
  • The right you want to exercise
  • A description of your request
  • Information reasonably necessary to verify your identity

We may request additional information to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.

B. U.S. privacy rights

Depending on your U.S. state of residence, you may have the right to:

  • Confirm whether we process your personal information
  • Access personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete personal information
  • Receive a portable copy of personal information
  • Opt out of certain processing, such as targeted advertising, sale of personal information, or certain profiling
  • Limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, where applicable
  • Appeal a denial of your privacy request, where required by law

Cala does not currently sell personal information. Cala does not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

12. Verification and authorized agents

To protect your privacy, we may need to verify your identity before responding to a request. If you use an authorized agent to submit a privacy request, we may require proof that you authorized the agent to act on your behalf.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. However, some requests may affect our ability to provide Cala if the requested information is necessary for the service.

13. De-identified, anonymized, and aggregated information

We may create de-identified, anonymized, or aggregated information from personal information. We may use this information for research, product development, benchmarking, analysis, publication, or business purposes.

We will take reasonable steps designed to prevent de-identified, anonymized, or aggregated information from being used to identify you.

14. Changes to this Privacy Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the product, by email, or by another reasonable method.

The “Last updated” date tells you when this Privacy Notice was most recently revised.
